Our guest speaker for October is Valerie Simons - a passionate Rotarian who raises the funds that raises shelters over the heads of families around the world after disasters.
Spotlight on Rotary is a one hour informal presentation on the ways in which Rotary helps people locally and internationally.
It is intended to inform guests of the opportunities available to give back to their community through volunteering their time and skills.
Shelter Box is a program that originated from the thoughts a Rotarian who wondered what a family would need first if their home was suddenly swept away. The number one priority, especially for children, is shelter followed closely by the other essentials of light, clean water and stove etc. Rotarians raise money so that a big green plastic box of essential equipment is transported directlty to each desperate family.
Shelter Box Mission
We provide shelter, essential items and technical assistance to help some of the world’s most vulnerable people recover and rebuild their homes after disaster. We listen and adapt our support to the needs of each community, working together with those affected by disaster, alongside our supporters and partners.
